Safeguarding Your Workplace Rights
Navigating the complexities of workplace rights in the UAE can be challenging. At Juris Maestro Legal Consultants we are dedicated to empowering you with the knowledge and legal support necessary to ensure your rights are upheld in the workplace.
Understanding Your Rights as an Employee in the UAE
Employee rights protection encompasses the legal safeguards that ensure fair treatment, safety, and respect in the workplace. These rights cover various aspects, including fair compensation, protection against discrimination, and the right to a safe working environment.

1. Equal Treatment and Non-Discrimination: The UAE labor laws prohibit discrimination based on gender, race, religion, nationality, or disability. Employers are required to provide equal opportunities and fair treatment to all employees.
2. Fair Compensation: Employees are entitled to receive their agreed-upon wages on time and in the manner specified in their employment contracts. The Wage Protection System (WPS) ensures that salaries are paid through approved channels, safeguarding employees' financial rights.
3. Working Hours and Rest Periods: The standard working hours are eight hours per day or 48 hours per week. Employees are entitled to a weekly rest period of at least 24 consecutive hours, typically on Fridays. Overtime work is compensated at a higher rate, as specified in the employment contract.
4. Annual Leave: Employees are entitled to annual leave, the duration of which depends on the length of service. The law mandates a minimum of 30 calendar days of paid annual leave after one year of service.
5. Maternity Leave: Female employees are entitled to maternity leave of 45 calendar days, with full pay, provided they have completed at least one year of service with the employer. If the employee has less than one year of service, the leave is unpaid.
6. Sick Leave: Employees are entitled to sick leave, the duration and pay of which depend on the length of service. The law specifies the conditions under which sick leave is granted and the corresponding compensation.
7. End-of-Service Benefits: Upon termination of employment, employees are entitled to end-of-service benefits, commonly known as gratuity. The amount is calculated based on the length of service and the last drawn salary, as per the provisions of the UAE Labour Law.
8. Health and Safety: Employers are required to provide a safe and healthy working environment, adhering to health and safety regulations. Employees have the right to work in conditions that do not endanger their health or safety.
9. Protection Against Unlawful Termination: Employees are protected against arbitrary dismissal. The law outlines the grounds for lawful termination and the procedures to be followed, ensuring that employees are not unfairly dismissed.
